Terrorism: Why Does Government Help It?

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

This article looks at the actual intention of terrorist attacks. It also asks why does government seem so eager to help terrorists achieve their goal?

Nobody seriously thinks that a handful of nutcases with high explosives under their anoraks are going to take over and enslave Great Britain, let alone the mighty United States.

After all, if we calculate the amount of high explosives that were dropped, say, on Dresden, during World War Two we get an estimation of the effort required to conquer a nation by force of arms. It would take thousands of suicide bombers to achieve the same result.

Then if we look at the organization, man power, industrial base, corporate might and force of arms that have been required to somewhat precariously take and hold even a small and relatively lightly armed country like Iraq, how much would it take to occupy against its will, the United States?

Osama Bin Laden - where is he by the way? - and his ragtag army of drugged-up psychopaths are not going to "take over" or conquer the West , nor bring it to its knees by exploding a bomb or bringing down a civilian aircraft once every few years, tragic and distressing though those incidences may be.

It will take a lot more force than that. We are not going to be invaded, forced against our will to accept Islam or anything else. This would not be on the cards even if the vast majority of Moslems were even the slightest bit interested in enslaving us or murdering us in our beds, which they are not: they have better things to do with their lives.

If the West is in any danger at all of being brought down, then I can point to criminal groups who have killed and tortured a lot more of us and done a whole lot more damage to our culture than Osama Bin Laden and his henchmen – and who are now bringing about the demise of more of our soldiers too!

These groups are psychiatry and the giant corporations that manufacture drugs and work so hard to persuade us to use them (you knew I was going to say that didn’t you? Ah, you know me so well!). If you do not believe me, then dig in and check out the data on the history and contemporary operations of the psycho-pharmacy and its hoaxucopia. Look over its effects not only in drugging the population of the planet into zombie-ism but on the creation of crime, destruction of spirituality and our stultification via the destruction of education.

Those like Osama, hell bent on destroying the West, must be green with envy at the results achieved by the psycho-pharmacy. Indeed, I don’t know why he even bothers: he can just sit back and let the psycho-pharmacy do all the work for him, then move in and do whatever it is in his mad brain he desires to do with the shattered remnants – if indeed he has even thought it through that far.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that right up close to Bin Laden we find a key advisor who is a psychiatrist and psychiatric medications being used to get his suicide bombers and other operatives in the right frame of mind, just as is now being done to the troops on our side.

But I digress. The main point of this article was to establish just what is the purpose of terrorist attacks. What are the terrorist masterminds trying to do?

The point of terrorist attacks is….. well, to terrify. They are a strategy of the militarily weaker against the militarily stronger that is designed to provoke the government of the stronger into a panic reaction that will see it "tighten security" by essentially acting against its own citizenry to constrict their freedoms, cut their lines of communications, restrict their movements, reduce their liberties, suspend habeas corpus and the proper justice that protects them, introduce arbitrary arrest, start torturing, shoot first and ask questions later and so forth. In short, the idea is to provoke an enemy government into suspending or even trampling upon the very laws and traditions that earn the loyalty of its populace.

Of course, this strategy, to work, relies in large measure on the presence in the enemy government of men dumb enough or criminal enough to react to a terrorist attack by - with ominous alacrity - constricting freedoms, suspending justice, introducing arbitrary arrest, torturing, etc., etc.

It relies too upon the citizenry being frightened enough to go along with the steps taken by government to reduce their liberties and it is a great boon to the terrorist efforts when they have organizations in the target country willing to fan the flames of that terror and spread it quickly. This is the role performed wittingly or unwittingly by the media.

But what happens then is that little by little the citizenry become dis-enamored of their own government: the wrong guy gets arrested; people no longer feel safe to speak their mind or openly debate an issue; scary laws that run contrary to mores and customs are rushed through Congress; the citizenry find themselves a party to torture and other crimes; protections against the arbitrariness and blind stupidity of that unthinking machine called government begin to disappear.

Each goof, excess or injustice is another nail in the coffin of the civilization in so far as one of its keystones is the relationship between people and their government. In the eyes of the populace, the government begins, increment by increment, to appear less benign and more dangerous. The environment becomes less safe and while terrorist attacks are occasional and specific, the threat from government is pervasive.

The best way for a government, for example, that claims to be crusading for democracy to protect democracy is to actually uphold it. If that government ceases to practice it, it ceases to exist and then people begin to perceive they are fighting to protect something they have already lost.

Terrorism is designed to provoke a government into abandoning democracy. The best way for our governments to protect democracy and defeat terrorism is to practice it, and increase it, not diminish it.

Yet western governments have acted to diminish their democracies and we risk going the same way as ancient Rome. In the end her people took no pride in her and would not fight for her: there had been just too many injustices and betrayals. Then she fell, essentially to armies of refugees who had been driven west by more virile peoples further east.

None of this is rocket science. This strategy is well known. It is not a big secret. Therefore even government and its strategists and agents must know it.

Yet government is doing the very things it knows the terrorists desire! It aids and abets terrorism by its actions and hands them victory; we see it daily now in the actions of government and the increasing disquiet of its citizens.

Why?

Peace: Plans and Purposes

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

In this article I propose a broad strategic plan for the creation of peace and laying the foundation of Earth's first global civilization.

Build a Road to Peace

1. Set up a justice system for resolution of disputes between nations, identification and censure of criminals, verification of evidence etc.

2. Get criminals out of government positions and replace them with honest men.

3 Reform your money system and prosper beyond all imagining, thus removing the need to "save" (i.e. plunder) other nations .

4. Drop the notion that the answer to crime is to commit lots of crimes.

5 Drop the notion that the way to make the world safe is to start World War Three.

6. Drop the notion that the way to bring order to an area is to start blowing things up and shooting people (ie. bringing chaos).

7. Protect all human rights without compromise. Recognize that sanctimonious rhetoric is not enough and doesn't fool anybody but the terminally gullible.

8. Apply your morés, customs, laws and basic decencies to your dealings with ALL men everywhere.

9. Stop aiding and abetting ruthless dictators.

10.Stop dropping bombs on people. It upsets them.

11.Recognize that the best way to uphold civilization is to practice it rather than abandon it at the first temptation.

12. Recognize that to practice civilized conduct, despite all "reasons" or invitations to abandon them, requires true courage and moral fiber and that persons, groups or nations who abandon these values are weak.

Strategic Blueprint for the Foundations of a Global Civilization

1) Let us cease the process of having our banks supply our economies with debt. Instead, let us fulfill all our economies' needs for money by having our governments create money and spend it into circulation debt-free. The current system of running our economies on interest-bearing debt rather than true money is the basic cause of the mis-managed economic mess that has become so awful war can look like an attractive option. A correct money system will enable our nations - indeed all nations - to flourish and prosper beyond all imagining. It will rid us of the "need" to keep our economies alive by ripping off, invading or interfering with other nations.

2) Let us cease the scam of Third World debt that derives from the same debt-money swindle perpetrated by our criminal banking elite and which is used to supply our malfunctioning economies with cheap goods through the covert enslavement of the world's peoples.

3) Let us use the above monetary reforms to bring down punitive taxation and so remove from the people a dis-incentive to produce. Let us abolish income tax which is probably the most oppressive, crippling and disruptive method of raising revenue ever dreamed up by the criminal mind.

4) Let us introduce the principle of fair and honest exchange into all our trading relations. Removing the aforementioned monetary distortion from the environment will have leveled the economic playing field and made this possible. There will remain only the need to introduce the will and decision so to do.

For example, if we want oil we can have the decency to trade honestly for it like everybody else and knock off finding pretexts to mug nations that have it. We can use existing scientific knowledge to support and develop alternatives to oil rather than allowing our corporate oil interests to suppress them and so perpetuate needlessly our dependency on it. By freeing our governments from the aforementioned money scam that renders them subservient to their creditors we will free them to respond instead to the needs of their electorates rather than their creditors. In so doing we will shall enable our governments to respond creatively and appropriately to problems posed by the environment. By removing in this way suppressors to human survival, we shall have raised the survival potential of the human community.

5) Let us apply the mores, common decencies and good manners customary among us at home to all our dealings with all people everywhere. We can then rightfully insist that all people reciprocate that moral conduct in their dealings with us. Those in or close to positions of power and governance are the very last people who should be exempted from our basic morés, customs and laws because a criminal in such a position can wreak broad harm on a large number of people, as evinced by the present global debacle.

6) Let us actually apply the principles of democracy to all our dealings with all people everywhere. Knock off installing, arming and supporting ruthless dictatorships as we did, for example, in the case of Saddam Hussein.

7) Let us actually apply the principles of justice - presentation and verification of evidence, fair and impartial hearing, the right of the accused to know and face his accuser, punishment only of those proven guilty and so forth - to all our dealings with all people everywhere. Let us make justice equally available to all - not merely those with lots of money or living in privileges nations. If it isn't available to all on equal terms, it isn't justice. Let us cease to oppose, and actually support and bring into being at international level, a truly impartial court for the resolution of disputes and injustices between nations. After all, who will oppose the erection of such a system except he who is criminal and has crimes such a court might discover, expose and censure? Let us thereby truly spread and render global a civilization, not a barbarism.

The measure of civilization is not how many shiny cars or rockets we have but how we treat one another. We should remember that Rome was conquered by tribes of refugees who had themselves been forced westwards by more virile peoples. In the end her injustices and crimes had become so many that her own people no longer took pride in being Roman and her soldiers would no longer fight for her.

8) Let us actually apply the principles of human rights to all people everywhere, without fear, favor, exemption or compromise. If we adopt this with sincerity as our cause and practice it in deed, if we become its bastion, we will "out-cause" any other "ism" that seeks to attract good people to its banner. Human rights boil down to basic justice - the rights of the honest citizen not to have crimes committed against him, whether the perpetrator of those crimes be other citizens or government itself.

9) Let us recognize that anyone who advocates war is insane and a criminal. Let us erect a justice system that will investigate such a person's crimes and expose them - with complete honesty and whoever he may be. We will thereby shut up or lock up the only people who ever truly wanted war in the first place. Remove the criminal from positions of influence and replace him with an honest man and you will not have war.

10) Let us stop using our armies and our weapons of mass destruction to attack people. Such acts are injustices and crimes and far from producing enduring safety and prosperity for our people, they arm terrorists and other criminals with the support of otherwise decent but now bewildered, desperate and upset victims of our own violence.

11) Let us stop drugging our own populations. Government commits massive crime against its own people when it allows pharmaceutical giants and psychiatrists to engage in the mass drugging of the people through misrepresented and patently harmful mind-altering chemicals. The strength of a nation derives from the strength, spirit, initiative and enterprise of its people and these are the very qualities we destroy through succoring those who, for profit, would stupefy our people through the deliberate creation of a massive drugs epidemic.

12) Let us stop lying to people - especially our own - and become honest and straight in our dealing with the human community. The utterance and spread of falsehood kill democracy and justice stone dead and war can only occur where there is falsehood. Democracy and justice can only operate upon truth and accurate information. In the absence of democracy, justice and truth the world becomes unsafe for everyone.

13.) Let us stop setting up oppressive regimes that give succor to terrorists. Let us stop training, supplying and financing terrorists. Let us stop all psychiatric mind-control programs that use drugs, pain and hypnosis to create assassins and terrorists. Let us cease funding clandestine agencies that violate our own and international laws and bring the perpetrators of those violations to justice. Through such activities we have invariably created monsters that have turned on their creators, or rather the nations that unwittingly harbor their creators. The atrocity of 9/11 is the worse incidence to date of how our own people die when our monsters run a muck.

14) Let us stop further terrorizing our own people through media campaigns designed to make their environment appear more dangerous than it actually is.

15) Let us use our new control of money supply to eradicate debt and break the power of the rapacious internationals and bring them back under moré, custom and law. Let us break the vicious spiral of weapons building and cease to be the major purveyors of weapons of death to every corner of the world where men have been driven insane. Let us divert energy and resources to socially desirable projects that help rather than kill people.

15) Let us turn our nations from the shabby, degraded criminal path upon which we have placed them and through honest and responsible management of their affairs make them the true glory of the world. The management of nations is not failing because it is inherently hopeless or impossible, it is failing because it is in the hands of criminals. Let us help all other members of the human community of which we are a part to do the same.

All this may take perseverance and a considerable investment of effort on our part but no greater perseverance and investment of effort than the wars we engage in with such regularity to no good result.

Ironically, the future survival in good condition of the world's nations can only be guaranteed by conduct commonly held to be decent and ethical. Honesty, justice, help and the uncompromising safeguarding of the rights of honest people are not luxuries. They are the absolutely indispensable prerequisites of a civilization fit for human beings to live in. If we wish to survive, we must uphold them at all costs and against all persuasions to do otherwise.

There is no safety and indeed no survival for us in neglecting or abandoning them

Criminal persons and groups seek to persuade us that the opposites of these qualities - to cheat, enslave, terrorize, lie to, assault, kill and so forth other members of the human community - are the way to survive.

But they would, wouldn't they?

Great Propaganda Tricks of Today

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

Propaganda: falsifying, altering or modifying information so as to produce a response in the recipient other than what would have resulted from a supply of totally factual, unadulterated information.

In order to get people thoroughly upset with someone, just accuse that someone of something. You don't have to prove your accusation. Just allege it. Repeat until it sticks in the public mind. The repetition of highly emotive words assists this process: for example by inserting the adjective "sinister" into every utterance.

To assist you in number one above, spread the falsehood that "there's no smoke without fire." This is a handy false datum that has been around a long time and "everybody knows," and everybody misses the fact that a fire and a piece of information are entirely different things obeying entirely different laws. In any case, there is smoke without fire, as any chemist or movie special effects expert will tell you.

Use harmless sounding euphemisms to make your most horrible crimes sound innocuous. Examples: "a change of regime," which means using military might to depose a dictator we originally installed and replacing him with a dictator who will do what we tell him; " our democracy" when you mean, "our corporate oligarchy;" "freedom" when you mean "doing what we tell you;" and "new world order," which actually means "profitable chaos."

Or "collateral damage," which means "we killed ‘em but we don't care."

Accuse others of what you yourself are doing. Employ a great deal of moral outrage. That way everybody will be so busy looking where you have pointed your finger, they won't be looking at you. Impressed by your moral outrage they will never suspect that you are doing whatever it is you are outraged about.

Get your media busy, cooking up one crisis after another so as to keep public attention thoroughly away from what they should really be worried about.

Flood the marketplace with conspiracy theories, many of which should sound completely barmy. Create such a bewildering storm of conflicting messages as to become intellectual white noise. Overwhelmed and confused, the public will sink into an apathy below understanding. This is called the "wood-for-the-trees-gambit." The actual truth about what you are up to, should it surface, will become lost in the noise and discredited by association with all the half truths, blind alleys and exaggerations.

I invite my readers to send in their own suggestions. The best will be printed. The very best will receive a free book.

The Maniac's Guide to Creating War - Basic Procedure

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation
by Kieron McFadden

How do you start a war? How do you overcome people's reluctance to get one started? It takes a great deal of effort, after all, to get otherwise sane human beings to act mad and slaughter one another when they would really rather not if it's all the same to you! Here are the ancient secrets of creating war, the lunatic's handbook, handed down from psychopath to psychopath. Its essentials sre as relevant today as they have always been.

A criminal person or group, having managed to suborn a nation's government, decides it would be a jolly fine idea to have a war so as to pinch some other nation's land, gold, oil, slaves or what-have-you, or to distract attention from the government's own criminal conduct/atrocious economic mis-management/erosion of the human rights of its own citizens etc.

Some pretext or justification must be found so as to convince decent people that they should do, what otherwise, would not have entered their heads: maim and kill people they have never even met and with whom they have no real argument. Therefore, they must be terrified into believing the target nation is a threat or that some injustice or insult has been committed that can "only" be corrected by armed assault.

Alternatively, convince the people that "God says they should do it" or their survival will be enhanced by the creation of death and chaos or some similar batty argument. This can be best achieved by lying to them, making up "facts" or distorting facts so as to create a turbulence in which they will cease to reason.

It can also be achieved by actually creating a real threat, for example by using one's intelligence agencies to put lunatics in power in other nations and having one's banking sector finance the purchase by one's pet lunatic of weapons of death from one's own arms corporations.

Important. Whatever happens, the exercise of justice must be prevented at all costs, lest one's case for the summary execution of tens of thousands of people who were minding their own business be subjected to unwanted scrutiny and verification be demanded of the "facts" one has put forward. And lest any properly conducted investigation should bring to view one's own crimes and one's own contribution to creating the threat in the first place.

Moreover, justice precludes punishing people on someone's assertion as to what they "might do," and also precludes clobbering innocent bystanders in one's enthusiasm to get the bloke who looks like someone who might do something or the other. Justice can be annoying as it tends to greatly restrict one's choice of pretext upon which to order in the high altitude bombers to pulverize the odd shopping mall, school or hospital.

Worse, if one is caught trying to start a war on the basis of flimsy or non-existent evidence, large numbers of people are likely to conclude that one is bonkers .

Point to the threat relentlessly and play up the threat to the maximum possible degree. Have your media think up some scares that will create the impression that the threat is "everywhere." If necessary, create or permit a few "incidents" that will further drum home the ghastliness of the threat. Generalize; avoid getting down to specifics. Overwhelm. Terrify.

Marginalize, discredit, ridicule or deny a platform to anyone who has the temerity to point out that not only is war not the "only option," other options such as proper, fair justice are being studiously ignored. Use the existence of the "threat" to portray any advocacy of sensible conduct as weakness in the face of the threat.

Pretend you are a "strong leader" who is going to take the "only choice" you have been left with so as to "protect your people from the threat." Always declare the very best of motives, such as "protecting democracy" or "safeguarding civilization" - even while actually spitting on both.

Take all the necessary steps to destroy, in your people, their sense of kinship with their fellow man. Have them view the people of the target nation as somehow less human or less worthy of life than they, so that attacking them is "not really a crime."

Give the order to start killing.

The Antidote to War

Freedom Plaza, towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

Wars occur when nations go insane. Nations or people go insane because they are driven insane and then held there!. Sanity is their native condition and insanity the condition they are bludgeoned into. My previous article, "The Maniac's Guide to Creating War" described how this is done. But what is the antidote to all this, the magic formula that will keep us in our sane condition?

The antidote to war is Justice

In the presence of true justice, war does not happen. In order to create war, one must ensure that all efforts to erect a system for the implementation of true justice are thwarted.

One can observe that to the degree that Man is in affinity with man, he survives. To the degree that man's affinity with man is inhibited, his ability to survive is jeopardized. In order to have war, one must destroy man's sense of affinity with man.

The purpose of justice is the survival of the community. Its function is to locate the perpetrators of acts that inhibit the survival of their fellow man (criminals) and have them cease committing those acts.

True justice does not inconvenience the honest citizen, neither does it inconvenience the honest government because it targets only those engaged in criminal actions.

Laws prohibit certain acts because it is recognized that those acts harm the survival of the human community.

The correct target, the only correct target, of justice actions is he who commits acts that are counter to the survival of the human community. Justice enters in when someone will not correct his own counter-survival actions. It is the effort of the group to protect itself from the harm done by such persons.

Justice must be equitably applicable to all, lest some be exempt from it and thereby left free to commit harm. Laws, for the same reason, must be uniformly applicable to all. Anything less isn't justice. The less justice we have, the less the community is able to protect itself from the criminal and so the less able to survive are the members of that community.

What is missing from the global community of nations at this time, and it is this omission that continually gets us into war and other troubles, is an equitable system of laws that define and proscribe recognized harmful acts and an equitable system of justice for correctly identifying the perpetrators of harmful acts and having them cease those acts.

Until such a justice system is in place, there will be anarchy among nations and criminals will remain at liberty to harm their fellows.

The solution to our current international debacle is not war. It is to invest maximum effort and maximum resources into the creation instead of a Truly Equitable system of justice for the resolution of disputes between nations and for taking action against criminals, and only criminals, on the basis of verified evidence.

This is something all honest men of good will can support because it is they who would make immense gain from such a system, were it ever to come into being. The only persons who would be "harmed" by it are criminals.

It is for that very reason that only criminals will resist, impede or object to the efforts required to bring such a system into being.

Propose a system for international justice, then see who decries it, seeks to discourage it or works to undermine it. And right here you have someone up to no good.

By their deeds shall we know them.

Oh What a Lovely War!

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

What is the real, primary enemy of Man?

If we - whatever "side" we happen to be on or geographical location we happen to have been born in - are to protect ourselves from having to kill, or be killed by, perfect strangers with whom we have no quarrel, being obliged to send our sons off to die for ideals so high they can only be delivered by high-altitude bombers and being forced to live our days in a global charnel house, we had better try and apply reason to our predicament.

We had better see if we can make a little more sense of who is doing what to whom before we get dragged into yet another nightmare. Once we understand that war is ALWAYS the result of the machinations of criminal persons and groups, we can begin to unravel the mystery of war. We can begin to understand what such criminals have to gain and the goals and purposes that drive them.

Our lives, the lives of our children and the future of our civilization depend utterly upon us arriving at such an understanding and upon us learning to make the targets of our wrath, not our fellow men of good will but the small minority who, for their own gain, seek to inhibit the survival of their fellows.

We can choose not to make such an effort. We can choose to go on listening to the voices of unreason, to warmongers and terrorists who all pursue the same end: human conflict. They all labor hard to instill in us such fear and upset we will abandon just and reasoned conduct. We can allow ourselves to be duped by such men yet again and led by our nose-rings into their depraved viciousness.

But thousands of years of doing just that teach us that it's not a very successful action. Whenever we have done so, we have invariably suffered the most gruesome consequences. So the next time the loonies try to kick off again, why not just skip it?

We can choose to do something different, to break with the agonized, often fatal goofs of our forebears. We can refuse to be suckered by those who would discourage us from reason and good conduct towards our fellow human beings and make the effort to increase our understanding of how and why we are lied to, manipulated, terrorized and upset Maybe we can finally alter that agonized pattern of historical folly and establish a safe civilization that will last more than five minutes before some nut persuades us to blow it up.

If one advocates the long-term survival of the entire human community, one must therefore advocate the application of reason to all problems of human interrelations because reason is the only way any survival problem was ever resolved and ever can be resolved.

There is no problem of human interrelations that cannot be resolved by reason. WAR CAN ONLY OCCUR IF THE APPLICATION OF REASON IS PREVENTED and we frequently witness the feverish efforts of various criminal groups to prevent that application.

To the degree that Man forsakes reason, he does not survive.

Man's primary enemy is not other men: IT IS UNREASON

The Economic Context of War, Part One: The Flawed Economy

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation
by Kieron McFadden

For some, war is good for business and for that reason it is created out of nothing by its beneficiaries and completely counter to the desires and best interests of the vast majority of us. And we wind up slaughtering people we have never met and with whom we have no quarrel until some jackass manufactures one.

Modern national and global economies malfunction on a single flaw: the money we use as our means of exchange is not in fact money but debt. Banks create money out of nothing and lend it to governments, businesses and individuals: and that is where "money comes from."

That money has to be paid back at interest and accounts for virtually all the money in circulation. The money that circulates in the national, and indeed global, economy gets there by virtue of this process of lending it into existence. It is removed from circulation as debts are repaid.

The existence of money therefore depends upon the existence of debt. The more money we wish to have in circulation, the more debt we must carry to support it.

The more outstanding debt there is, the more the money lenders prosper by virtue of the continual flow of interest payments therefrom: it is the interest on debt that constitutes their profits.

The banking sector, at whose apex sit the powerful dynasties of the money-lending elite, therefore has a vested interest not in the achievement of solvency but in the maintenance and expansion of overall indebtedness.

The system is rigged to the benefit of that sector which supplies the economy with money in the form of interest-bearing loans. The privilege of money creation and the power to decide, through policies on lending, who will have access to money, delivers into the hands of private-profit money lenders near absolute power and renders them for all practical purposes a power echelon senior to governments.

As economies expand, they require more money so, in our debt-based system, the more an economy expands the more it has to go into debt. It is no surprise that the world's biggest economy, the United States, is by far the most heavily in debt.

Government, business and private borrowing must be undertaken in order to provide a circulating stock of money. This system is a trap because it becomes impossible for the economy as a whole to get out of debt much as the human beings within it strive hard so to do. It presents Man with an impossible paradox: the only way to reach overall solvency is to reduce economic activity to zero!

Moreover, levels of debt must increase if the economy is to be kept out of recession because money is borrowed into circulation AT INTEREST. It has to be paid back and when it is paid back, the interest added ensures that more money is removed from general circulation than was borrowed into circulation to begin with. That shortfall is compensated for by a further, greater round of borrowing. When that money is returned to the banking sector at interest, an even greater round of borrowing is required to replace it. Thus, borrowing and the levels of debt that must be shouldered by government, industry and consumer, ratchets inexorably upwards.

Government borrowing is an important component of the money supply and governments run up their national debts in order to supply money to the economy. National debts tend to ratchet upwards and in a debt economy the ever-growing national debt is essential.

Governments supply the economy with money by borrowing it and spending it on projects. As it is spent on government projects, it enters general circulation and so is added to the money stock. The debt is then repaid at interest by taxing the citizen. This is the process by which the entire nation assumes a debt so as to ensure money circulates in its economy. The citizen repays the debt through his taxes.

Companies working closely with government, within the nation's military/industrial complex are able, in effect, to cut off consumer spending power at source, capturing it at the point it is released by government. They are further advantaged by the fact that the corporate powers involved in manufacture and supply to the military are closely interwoven with the banking sector that does the lending.

New money released into the economic through military spending results in an increase in the number of tanks, missiles and so forth. This however does not add WEALTH to the economy: there is no improvement in the material condition of the consumer, things are produced that he cannot consume. Adding new money to the economy without a commensurate increase in goods and services the consumer can enjoy is inflationary. Military spending therefore pushes inflation upwards. Increased government borrowing pushes taxation upwards.

War and preparation for war is profoundly beneficial to those corporations producing arms and other war-related merchandise. War and threat of war is profoundly beneficial to the banking sector because war is expensive. Governments embroiled in war or fearful of some enemy are compelled to borrow so as to finance the war effort. Nations devastated by war are compelled to borrow so as to repair and rebuild.

The banking sector's position as lender to governments that desperately need its continued supply of credit, puts the banking sector in a position where it can profoundly influence government policy, through its own policies on lending, the setting of conditions for its lending and so on.

In a debt economy in other words, government is not master of its own destiny.

The debt system of money creates a hidden power echelon senior to government. And that turns democracy into a sham.

War and the Criminal Mind

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

He who bangs the drum for war is ALWAYS a criminal. He will be found to have crimes against the mores, customs and laws of HIS OWN country. If we simply investigated these birds and found their crimes and handed them over to their own people for justice (NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY) instead of (duh!) listening to them, pretty soon we would not have war because nobody would want to stand up and promote it.

Somebody regularly works very hard to persuade us that we should have yet another war, in which untold numbers of thoroughly decent human beings will yet again be maimed and killed and the remainder thoroughly upset. Expect those efforts to intensify with in all likelihood North Korea or Iran taking the place of Iraq as the bogeyman-of-the-moment.

The determination on the part of some to talk or terrorize us into a war we don't really want can be quite remarkable as we saw not so long ago with Iraq where it was clear pretty much from the outset that the decision to go to war was made first and then reasons were sought to justify what had already been decided.

Still, a relentless propaganda onslaught designed to frighten everyone half to death, some exaggerations and dodgy evidence and a few timely terrorist incidents should do the trick of overcoming man's natural reluctance to burn the skin off people he has never even met. These things have always worked in the past.

War is a game that no nation ever truly wins. It is an entirely criminal operation - murder, violence, intimidation, theft and vandalism are not the modus operandi of decent men but are the province of the criminal, the man with ill will towards his fellows.

Show me someone who thinks getting a war going is the thing to do and tries to persuade others likewise and I will show you a criminal, a man with crimes he'd rather the rest of us did not know about - or if we know about them, do not recognize them for the vicious violations of our most basic decencies that they are. Please remember this the next time some loony of whatever nationality, persuasion or presidential position gets up and tries to persuade us to go to war: YOU ARE LOOKING AT A MAN WITH CRIMES.

It is no coincidence that it is criminal persons and groups, whose various agenda include the oppression and disadvantage of the honest citizen, who flourish and grow strong in war and in its aftermath. This is, of course, why they work so hard to get the rest of us to fight those wars.

The problem is we cannot now be sure, given the raw destructive power at the disposal of nations driven insane, that when the radioactive dust settles on the next one, whether there will be anybody left alive to know who "won."

Nobody, naturally, will admit to wanting war. Few are stupid enough to think war is much fun, especially those who happen to be in one. Nobody except the criminally insane regards dismembering children as a jolly fine way of conducting human interrelations. And nobody outside of an asylum regards mayhem, flattened cities, fallout or charred corpses as a worthy product of human endeavor.

So how come we repeatedly wind up playing with varying degrees of enthusiasm, a game none of us want to play?

The answer is that somebody must want war, otherwise it couldn't happen. The war in Iraq is our most recent example: there were factions in both the US and Iraq who wanted war and strove very hard to get what they wanted.

Somebody has to work very hard usually to convince everybody else that turning the human community upon itself in an orgy of blood-letting or the smashing up of everything good people have labored long and hard to build is our "only option" or the "only solution."

That somebody is ALWAYS a criminal, guilty at the very least of inciting millions of good men to violence against one another and, worse, against one another's children. And if you investigate the persons who promote, advocate and engineer the assault of one nation upon another you will find that they are up to their ears in crimes. By crimes I mean offenses against the laws of THEIR OWN people, be they fraud, embezzlement, vote rigging, human rights violations, murder and so forth. The trouble is we never do investigate such people: we tend to idolize them instead.

Some bozo gets up and says "No good trying to REASON with those dirty dogs! We gotta send in the gun boats/marines/B52s and knock some democracy into them!"

Correct response: "Okay, pal, which of our laws have you broken?"

War is a product of criminal activity by this person or that, this group or that, into which are drawn through deceit, fear-mongering and so forth, millions of decent people who have no quarrel with one another.

For that to occur someone must PREVENT justice and negate man's recognition of his kinship with his fellow man.

Good men, after all, neither start fights, nor with dedicated malice seek to bring about fights between others. Neither do good men ever profit from war: it is a criminal enterprise, engineered or provoked by criminals for the gain of criminals.

The phenomenon of war, causes of, are no mystery. But there are some who would like things to appear otherwise.

Does Religion Cause War? Part I

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation

by Kieron McFadden

"Religion" often gets blamed for our wars. Well in the world in which we live blame flies about in search of victims thicker than bullets in an Al Qaida ambush. But blame and guilt are different things. Is Religion guilty as charged?

One often hears the lazy argument that "Religion" is responsible for Man's wars, the implication being that if we got rid of religion, all would be peace and harmony. Presumably then, if all men abandoned the notion that they are spirits inhabiting a material body and conceived of themselves as mere animals fashioned by chance from mud our troubles would be over and we'd all be a lot happier. This is of course untrue and does not correspond with an observation of history, nor of present reality.

It also displays a degree of fogginess about what one means by the word "religion" Religions vary considerably. There are pantheisms (the belief in many gods) monotheisms (the belief in one God who created all) and religions that worship no gods at all, such as Buddhism or modern Scientology.

At the far end of the spectrum there are even religions that do not conceive man to be an immortal soul even while life is considered to be nevertheless spiritual in essence.

Some religions such as Christianity stress faith, while faith has no place at all in others -Scientology and Buddhism being cases in point.

One should note too, while one is discussing paradigms based on Faith, that materialism remains unable to produce conclusive evidence for its basic assumption. That spirituality does not exist is a matter of belief, not evidence. One can of course produce evidence that the material universe exists and one can establish and prove its laws but this is not proof that that the material universe is all there is. The assertion that the material universe is all there is is neither scientific nor logical and is actually a statement of faith.

Alright, so this vague undefined variable known as "religion" or "faith" is responsible for Man's wars. Is it true?

Well, I can think of a few recent conflicts or humanitarian cataclysms whose driving force was anything but religious.

Hitler's massacre of ethnic minorities, for instance: religions were often the victim of Nazi psychosis but they were not responsible for it. In fact it is now a matter of record that the drive behind Nazi mass slaughter came from German Psychiatry, the arch-champion of the man-is-mud hypothesis.

The drive behind the Russian revolution and the Stalinist slaughter that followed it was anything but religious, deriving again from the materialism of communism and psychiatry.

Ditto the civil war and ethnic cleansing in Yugoslavia. Ditto the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with materialistic psychiatry the hidden motivator again.

The Chinese invasion of Korea in1950 and the Korean War that followed also had little or nothing to do with religious issues. One had materialistic communist China on the one hand and the largely atheistic commercial imperialism of western nations on the other.

The US invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were commerce-driven regardless of what justifications are concocted for it, while in the war in Vietnam, religion figured neither in the motivation nor rhetoric of either side.

Not all war therefore is "caused" by "religion." Religious groups are however often the victim or target of it but not exclusively and not always. There is no evidence that by "getting rid of religion" one would "get rid of war" any more than there is evidence that by outlawing atheism or abandoning commerce there would be peace on Earth.

Nor is there any evidence that an abandonment of spirituality would make society happier. On the contrary, our western society has become unhappier and more demoralized as it has become materialistic. You will probably find that the epidemic spread of drug abuse and crime on the one hand and the decline in man's spirituality and even his sense of right and wrong follow commensurate curves. In the midst of material abundance, which theoretically should have made Man happier, we live out our days in an increasingly miserable Gomorrah of lost souls.

Of course "religion" is a factor in the war in the Middle East and in justifications for their actions put forward by terrorist groups. And religion has been a factor in many a human conflict. It is true too that religious societies have not necessarily been happy ones either.

In fact, a look at human history tells one that whether spiritual in outlook or materialistic in outlook, Man tends to have a hard time. From this one can conclude that humanity is still evolving its social forms and does not yet have all the answers. This is no reason to get apathetic about the whole thing and to abandon the effort to reason in favour of generalized, unworkable slogans. Indeed, we have every incentive to go on trying to get better at these things called society and civilization, if only through a sense of responsibility to our children who will inherit whatever dog's breakfast we bequeath them.

Getting better at managing human affairs requires that we knock off subscribing to broad, untrue, generalities such as "religion is the cause of war" or some such nonsense.

Let's look this thing over more carefully and see if we can get a bit more accurate about what exactly is getting us into trouble.

Perhaps, if we do, we might as a species manage to comport ourselves with more dignity and kick the habit of following every psycho who seeks to persuade us to burn the skin off the children of people we have never met.

I will continue this effort to apply reason to the matter of religion and war in the next essay in this series.

Does Religion Cause War? Part II

Freedom Plaza: towards a saner, safer civilisation
by Kieron McFadden

Religion is not the common denominator of all war. Nor, for that matter is atheism. So what is?

In part one of this discussion, we established that many of the wars of the past century were not religious in nature and their motivation was in fact about as non-religious as one could get.

Religion is not the common denominator of all war. Nor, for that matter is atheism.

We should really extend our original question to "does religion also cause terrorism, torture or indeed any acts that violate the life, liberty and human rights of the individual?"

Recent history tells us pretty emphatically that while religion has often been used as an excuse for barbaric conduct, men inclined towards act of barbarism have found other justifications as well as religion to make their slaughter of their fellow human beings appear perfectly reasonable or "unavoidable."

Hitler's ethnic cleansing, for example, actually had "science" as its excuse - the bogus science of Eugenics.

The fact that religion is used as an EXCUSE for an atrocity is no more a reason to condemn religion than the use by the unscrupulous of science as their excuse should prompt us to abandon science.

What men need to knock off is buying the "reasons" put forth by some loony for common assault, grievous bodily harm, murder, arson, extortion and mugging.

All this nevertheless begs the question as to what is happening when a religion apparently becomes the driving, motivating, justifying force behind the collective move of one large human group to do violence to another large human group.

How does a religious group wind up pursuing policies and actions completely contrary to the original teachings of its founder and, indeed, the instincts of its members?

Very few religions were built upon a message of violence. Almost all began life and achieved broad popular acceptance on the basis of "maybe we should all try to treat one another better." If you look closely at the original "horse's mouth" words of religious founders, you'll find this to be the case.

This corruption of a group purpose occurs not only in the field of religion. Many groups, despite being founded upon high ideals and good intentions, operate a million miles distant from that original intent. Democratic governments for example, frequently wind up bludgeoning their own electorate with truncheons and refine all manner of covert ways to chip away at their citizenry.

Socialist governments wind up standing the workers before firing squads; revolutions intended to liberate the people require revolutions to liberate the people from the revolutionary government; resistance groups formed to defend the people against an oppressive power, descend into extortion, gangsterism and the knee-capping of teenagers, with the people they were formed to protect as their primary victims; ..... and so on.

What happens to a group that drives it off the rails and along a route it never intended to take?

A group founded by sane personalities, men of goodwill, and run by men of good will, remains a group of good will as long as men of good will have control of its policy-making, agenda-setting apparatus, whatever form that apparatus may take. Its intent will not be destructive and its conduct will not be criminal. Its degree of success or error will depend upon the intelligence of the people making its dynamic decisions but its INTENT and motivation will, like any sane person's, remain social and it will try to correct antisocial conduct made in error.

But how does a group turn actively criminal? How does a religion founded upon a renunciation of worldly baubles become a money grubbing corporation? How does a creed whose basic tenets are non-violent find justification for torture, carpet-bombing, terrorism and other acts of sadism in the "well, what He really meant by thou shalt not kill was thou shalt not kill Believers..." of its re-interpreted scriptures?

We'll answer that question in Part Three.
